OUT NOW: Flunk — Petrified (Arms and Sleepers Edit)

A darker, noir-leaning Flunk frame — curated by The Darrow Chem Syndicate, with Spotify Canvas visual direction by Hiroshi Fukuma / Nipponeer Records.

“Petrified (Arms and Sleepers Edit)” by Flunk is out now on all major platforms.

Flunk returns in a darker, noir-leaning frame, with Arms and Sleepers tightening the form through dust-lit atmospheres and slow-pressure breaks. A cinematic, late-night statement with controlled impact — emotion sharpened, not softened.

Curated by The Darrow Chem Syndicate.

Release context

“Petrified (Arms and Sleepers Edit)” places Flunk in a more restrained, nocturnal frame. The edit leans into atmosphere, negative space, and slow-pressure rhythm rather than spectacle.

The Darrow Chem Syndicate curated the release direction, positioning the track as a controlled, cinematic statement: intimate, dark, and textural.

Visual direction

For the Spotify Canvas and related visual treatment, Hiroshi Fukuma / Nipponeer Records developed an atmospheric, hand-crafted motion approach built from static band photography.

The visual direction was designed to avoid a smooth, generic AI-video look. Instead, the Canvas uses subtle photo animation, analog texture, rainbow light leaks, restrained movement, and controlled timing to make the still images breathe while preserving the emotional center of the release.

The aim was not to overpower the track. The motion supports the audio: dust, light, stillness, pressure.

Canvas production notes

The Canvas treatment was created as an 8-second, mobile-first seamless loop for Spotify.

Key visual components include:

  • cinematic photo animation
  • static band photography transformed into breathing footage
  • subtle timing control to keep motion natural
  • vocalist-centered emotional framing
  • analog grain and heavy vintage film texture
  • rainbow light-leak overlays
  • restrained camera movement
  • noir-leaning atmosphere
  • downtempo / indie-electronica mood
  • cinematic sequencing across band portraits and urban textures

The production approach reflects a release-linked visual workflow: the Canvas is treated as part of the record’s identity, not as a detached social asset.

Portfolio note

This project belongs in Hiroshi Fukuma’s Spotify Canvas Designer portfolio because it shows a restrained, music-first approach to motion design.

Rather than using AI motion as a decorative effect, the visual treatment is shaped around the track’s emotional weight, pacing, and atmosphere. The result is a compact 8-second loop designed to feel intimate, textural, and repeatable inside Spotify’s mobile interface.

This project reflects the same release-linked visual workflow offered through Hiroshi Fukuma’s Spotify Canvas Designer profile on SoundBetter.
